About

Painting is a slow record of attention — colour, light, silence.

My name is Malena. I have painted in oil for more than fifteen years.

I work slowly. A single piece takes weeks to arrive — I return to it again and again, until colour and form become one.

It is not the subject that holds me, but the light — how it settles on a surface, stays, and slowly leaves. I try to depict nothing. I only ask the canvas to hold its silence.

Each work exists as a single original. No editions, no reproductions, no prices online — acquisition is arranged personally, in conversation. What you see here is a selection. The rest is born in the studio.

For me, painting is not about subject, nor about likeness. I watch, for a long time, how light falls on things and slowly leaves — and I try to hold exactly that on the canvas: not the object, but its presence.

I lay down layer after layer, and often erase what I have made. Depth does not come from the amount of paint, but from the time spent beside the work. When the canvas finally falls quiet and asks for nothing more — it is finished.

I do not need a painting to prove anything. Let it simply hold the light — quietly, the way old walls hold the warmth of a day that has gone.

I depict nothing. I leave light on the canvas.

Exhibition

The Work, in Person

Selected canvases, gathered in a single space — in the same low light they were painted for.

These are frames from the exhibition: oil originals, each one unique. What looks dark on a screen breathes colour in person — the light reveals itself slowly, as it does in the painting itself.

The full series can be seen under Works; acquisition is arranged personally.
